Competitive Sabre Classes are for experienced fencers who seek to hone their skills by training regularly with other, dedicated epeeists in hopes of earning a new rating or improving one’s performance at local and national events. For those students who begin their fencing careers at the Richmond Fencing Club, this requires learning and understanding the skills necessary to compete, which can be gained by participating regularly in an Intermediate Sabre Class. Students who wish to participate in a Competitive Sabre Class should have at least several months of experience fencing, should be comfortable with, and able to demonstrate, the basic skills needed to compete, and should be actively participating in fencing tournaments. Fencers in a Competitive Sabre Class refine their technique and practice skills in realistic tactical situations, improve the fluidity, power and quickness of their footwork, and discuss strategy. Competitive Sabre fencers are encouraged to participate in national-level tournaments, and work to improve their skills as a referee.
