What is a Division I North American Cup, or DIVI NAC?

A Division I NAC is the highest level of fencing competition in the United States.

Entrants are limited to fencers of a certain proficiency (C-level) and above, and

often include U.S. Olympic Team members, team members from other nations,

and other visiting collegiate fencers and fencers of note.

In these large (200+ entrant) events, U.S. fencers

finishing in the top 32 are awarded points toward qualification

to the U.S. World Cup and Olympic Teams.

Events are split by gender, as are the Olympics, and include

events for all 3 weapons:

Men's Epee, Men's Foil, Men's Sabre

Women's Epee, Women's Foil, Women's Sabre

Richmond Fencing Club, along with the United States Fencing Association and Virginia Division,

Richmond Sports Backers and Metro Richmond Convention center, hosted a Division I and Veterans (40+) NAC in

December 2004 and 2006. Over 1100 fencers competed over 3 days including 7 current and past Olympic team members, and 2004 Women's Sabre Olympic Gold Medalist and U.S. Olympic Team member Mariel Zagunis.
